Trekking bikes are ideal for leisure riding. Similar in specification to a long-distance touring bike, but with flat or riser handlebars, the trekking bike gives a more upright riding position, whilst less sporty this is more comfortable for the leisure rider. A trekking bike is the ideal choice for riding on a mixture of roads and off-road prepared trails such as those made on disused railways, and the National Cycle Network. Comfortable to ride for a day's cycle exploring, trekking bikes usually come fully equipped with a rear carrier rack for carrying panniers and other luggage, and mudguards to shield the rider.
