Tips on buying your first caravan

In Towsure Outdoors Blog 0 comment

Whilst caravan holidays are great fun and you may think that buying your own home on wheels is a good investment, there are a few things you need to do before signing on the dotted line.

Try before you buy

Trying out different caravans before you make the plunge is important, especially if you new to caravanning. With so many caravan sites around the UK, it is easy to just pick where you want to go and give is a go for the weekend. And if you don’t like it, it will be a lot cheaper than finding out with your own caravan.

Don’t buy the first you see

It might be difficult when you find a good deal to say no, but if it is one of the first you’ve looked at, you are better off shopping around first. Instead of impulsively buying the first one you find, shop around and look at other caravans to find what you like and don’t like.

Do your research

With any big purchase, you should do your research before you invest. You should look into the different brands, see what they offer and look at what others are saying. Try looking at the different prices for what you are after as well to save you from being ripped off and to make sure its worth your money.

Don’t be afraid to buy second-hand

Whilst you may prefer a brand new caravan to invest in, you can sometimes find a great deal on a second hand one that is in brilliant condition. Just make sure to ask lots of questions and look it over.

Give it a once over

Now that you’ve found the caravan that is perfect for you, make sure to thoroughly check it. Look for any damage to the interior or exterior, any signs of repairs done, and check for damp. Even brand new caravans can have small faults on them.

Depending on the severity of the damage, and if you are comfortable with it, you can try to bring down the price or save your money for another one.

After sale services

When you have found the caravan you want, there is just one more thing you need to do. Find out about any services they provide after you sign on the dotted line. If bought brand new, and sometimes second hand, the caravan may come with a warranty. If so, make sure you are clear on what it covers and how long it is for, and get it in writing if possible.
