With the nights drawing closer and the weather turning colder, it’s time to start thinking about getting your kids ready for the winter season. And whilst it may not be snowing outside right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t pick up the winter essentials ready for the cold.
Trousers and jacket
An obvious essential for the colder months is a jacket, preferably waterproof. However, one thing you might not think of buying for your kids when it snows is a pair of waterproof trousers. Together, a waterproof coat and trousers provide the perfect head to toe protection from the cold wind and wet weather. When looking for a new coat or pair of trousers for the winter, make sure they are waterproof and not water-resistant. This will help your kids stay completely dry in heavy rain and snow.
A snowsuit
If you have a toddler or younger child, you may benefit from swapping a jacket and trousers combo to a snow suit. They are ideal from full body protection against the elements and won’t ride up if your kids want to have a roll around in the snow. And just like when you buy a winter jacket and trousers, you should make sure the snowsuit is fully waterproof and insulated to keep your tot dry and warm whilst outside.
Gloves and mittens
Kids like to touch everything. So, we can’t expect them to keep their hands in their pockets when they get cold like we do as adults. They need a pair of gloves. Mittens and gloves are the perfect way to keep the kids’ hands toasty warm when they are out in the snow. For added protection, make sure they are fleece-lined and waterproof to protect your kids from all kinds of weather.
Woolly hat
Whilst a coat hood is great at protecting your head from the rain and snow, they aren’t the best at keeping you warm. A good quality woolly hat, on the other hand, is ideal for shielding your head and ears from the cold winds and wet weather this winter. Although you can’t get a fully waterproof woolly hat, there are plenty of styles that offer fleece lining for extra warmth.
Footwear
Although the clothes your kids wear is important to keep them warm and dry this winter, what they wear on their feet is just as crucial. In winter, it is time to say bye to the cute kid shoes and hello to wellies and snow boots. But what footwear you should go for depends on what your kids will need them for.
Wellies are a great option for days where it is raining but not too cold. As they don’t have a great deal of insulation in them, they aren’t the best for keeping your kids feet warm in the snow, but they are perfect for keeping them dry. Snow boots, on the other hand, are perfect for the snow – hence the name. just like a pair of wellies, snow boots are waterproof, but they are also insulated and most likely to be fleece lined for added warmth whilst out enjoying the snow.
With the help of these five essentials, your kids will be able to enjoy whatever the winter throws at us whether it is rain or snow.
