Self-switching Smart Split Charge Relay For Towbar Electrics

Straightforward to fit, the Smart Split-Charge relay provides power to the caravan's 12 volt supply, battery charging and refrigerator, via a towbar's 12S or 13-pin socket (socket not included). Recommended over the old-fashioned split charge relay on modern vehicles, as this self-switching unit requires no connection to the vehicle alternator.

Triggered by the rise in battery voltage when the alternator is providing a charge (when the engine is running), the self-switching relay provides power to the caravan whilst prioritising the towing vehicle's battery - in heavy-load conditions (such as air conditioning in full in a traffic queue at low RPM), the caravan power will cut out if the towing vehicle's battery is under heavy load and not receiving a charge - the supply resumes when the charge rate increases, ensuring that the caravan's refrigerator or auxiliary battery charge does not drain or over-stress the towbar's battery.
