Flange Towbar
This is the most popular and is favoured by those who are travelling long distances and are looking for reliability. It works well with a number of accessories and its versatility makes it desirable.

The disadvantages are that there is an extra cost for the towballs and the towbar can be seen when not in use.
Swan Neck Towbar
This is a towbar that is becoming more popular in the UK. Its appearance is neat and it is ideal for those who care about image. It is fitted in the same way as other towbars and this means that it does have the same pulling power. An ‘L’ shaped bracket is welded or fitted to the vehicle.
The advantages are that the design is easy on the eye and when it is not towing it will not trigger reverse sensors, it is also suitable for AL-KO stabilisers.
The downsides of using this towbar are that different towballs cannot be fitted, it is costlier and it cannot be used alongside a cycle carrier.
Detachable Towbar
A detachable towbar can be fitted and removed easily making it ideal for those who do not travel all that often. A simple key mechanism allows the fitting and removal to take place quickly which is ideal for those who want a last minute getaway.
The advantages that come with this towbar are that it can be fitted in seconds, it is not visible when not on the road and can be used with AL-KO stabilisers.
Unfortunately, it is not compatible with all bike racks, cannot be used to tow whilst using a cycle carrier and cannot be used with a bumper protector (although a silicone protector pad is available)
