Essential Autumn Caravan Accessories & Campervan Equipment

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, it's important to stay warm and well-lit during outdoor adventures, to get the most enjoyment out of late season caravan or campervan holidays.  If you're looking forward to a late summer or autumn getaway, we've put together a checklist of must-have Autumn Caravan Accessories to add to your caravan inventory, to help you stay safe, cosy and comfortable all day and night long.

A Portable Camping Heater

Perhaps the most obvious accessory for colder weather is a potable heater for our caravan or awning.  A compact electric heater is easy to set up and position anywhere you need it under cover, and lightweight enough not to add significantly to your payload.

For longer stays, a cabinet gas heater is convenient for use inside an awning. Using butane gas, these heaters can make a seasonal pitch cosy in the colder months, but are heavier to carry and require an additional gas bottle adding several kilos to your load. Plus, they do need ventilation so should not be used inside a fully sealed area.

Additional Lighting

With night drawing in earlier, lighting is not just for "going to bed" time.  If you're sitting out in your awning, you may need additional lighting to enjoy your relaxation.

Camping lanterns can effectively supplement your main awning or caravan lighting, casting illumination into darker corners and brightening up your pitch, preventing eye strain as the night falls.

Windbreak Support Poles

In cooler weather, windbreaks are essential to reduce chilly draughts and breezes around your pitch.  You may find that the ground is softer in Autumn especially if it is, or has been, raining - allowing wind to blow and loosen your windbreak poles. Windbreak Support Tubes provide a more stable support for your windbreak - and keep wooden poles drier and cleaner for packing away afterwards.

Mobile TV

We know that for some, the subject of television on a campsite can be contentious, however with shorter days and unpredictable weather, a mobile caravan television can be a godsend - on a wet and dark evening when weather puts paid to any notions of an evening walk, a mobile TV comes to the rescue curing boredom and frustration if forced to shelter under cover.

Warm and Wet-Weather Clothing

Balmy evenings relaxing in a T-shirt are fading into memory, but with the right clothing you don't need to retreat outdoors the moment the sun kisses the horizon line.

Layering is key to keeping warm; the air between the layers acting as insulation to to retain body heat and the first step is to pop on a comfy fleece or soft hoodie.  As the temperature drops, add an outer jacket.

Having the right jacket can make all the difference.  There are a variety of options to choose from, including waterproof, padded, and heated jackets. Brands like Skogstad, Regatta, and Trespass offer a wide range of styles and colors to suit individual preferences.

Doormat, Dustpan & Brush

Autumn means leaves, and rain means mud!  All of these can easily be trodden in to your awning living space or into your caravan or camper.  Lay a good quality bristle or coir doormat at the entrance to help trap dirt before it makes its way inside.

Of course, leaves can also be aided by wind, and no amount of boot scraping can stop that!  So don't forget a dustpan and brush - and maybe even a portable car vacuum cleaner to make short work of cleaning up and keeping your living area cosy.

Waterproof Dry Bags

Even if it's not raining, colder nights with a fairly high dew point (What is the dew point?) leads to added condensation which can make your stored clothing and equipment damp.  Packing items into dry bags that can be rolled up and sealed, helps to keep damp and musty odours at bay.  Smaller dry bags are also great for organising kit in your rucksack on a walk or day out, giving added protection for the contents if you are caught in a downpour!

Warm Bedding

If you've been considering upgrading your caravan bedding, now's the time!  But you don't have to shell out for a complete new sleeping set if you don't need to.

Whilst we supply super-comfortable Duvalay bedding and memory foam sleeping bags, we also carry a wide range of double and single sleeping bags.  Sleeping in a bag rather than under a duvet allows retention of more body heat, keeping you warm and comfortable all night long.

Or just thrown in some extra blankets from your home!

Moisture Absorbers

Taking along some portable moisture absorbers can help to combat damp from condensation. The simplest form of moisture trap consists of absorbent crystals which are added into a specially designed container.  These replicable crystals attract and absorb water vapour present in the air, preventing it from settling in your caravan.

By using moisture absorbers in your caravan, you can help prevent dampness, mold, and mildew, which are common issues in enclosed spaces, especially during the damper autumn months. This can help maintain a comfortable and healthy environment inside your caravan.
