Now that 2022 has officially started, a lot of people use it as an opportunity to start a new hobby. But, whilst it may seem all fun and games, do we really keep it up? Or do some of us give up after a couple weeks?

To ensure that you stick to it, we have a few and tricks to help you find the perfect hobby for you.

Time and schedule

One thing that will instantly stop your new hobby is how busy your schedule is. Different activities take different times, so depending on how much spare time you have, you may not be able to fit in some activities.

Walking and cycling are ideal for anyone no matter their schedule or how much free time they have. You can easily do a 20-minute walk or bike ride or even commute to work. They are also great for when you have more free time, just make the route longer!

However, if you have a lot of free weekends and fancy challenging yourself, hiking is the perfect hobby to take up this year.

Equipment and clothing

A lot of outdoor activities require some equipment and specially decided clothing. If you’re still deciding on what you want your new hobby to be, you’ve got to consider what equipment and clothing you already have and what you will need. For example, if you’re wanting to take up cycling, moisture wicking clothing and access to a bike are a must. Or if you are into walking or hiking, you may need to invest in a good quality pair of walking boots.

Goals and challenges

Something a lot of people struggle with setting goals or taking up a new activity in the new year is sticking with it. A great option to help keep the activity interesting is to set yourself goals and challenges to achieve.  Setting goals like walk 5 miles in 1 week will help motivate you to get out more and keeping it exciting.

Routes and trails

A motivation killer is being repetitive, especially if you are doing the activity more than once a week. Best solution, regularly switch up the routes you take or change the trails you go on. This will help keep the activity exciting and allow you to challenge yourself with various routes and different difficulty levels.

With the help of these tips and tricks, you’ll be able to find the perfect outdoor activity for you and be able to stick with it without losing motivation.
