It’s that time of year again where people are jetting off to somewhere in the sun or spending their afternoons in a beer garden. and whilst you may just want to enjoy a refreshing drink in the sunshine, you still need to protect yourself from the sun. Staying safe in the sun is important, not only so you don’t get sun burnt, but also to prevent getting sunstroke and other serious health issues. But how do stay protected in the glorious sunshine?
Sun cream
Everyone’s go-to when it comes to sun protection is a bottle of sun cream. You should wear SPF every day, no matter how sunny or cloudy it is, to shield your skin from UV rays. When looking for a daily SPF, you should opt for one that is at least factor 30 for maximum protection.
Clothing
Whilst you may want to wear as little clothing as possible in the summer heat, you should try to keep covered where possible. Wearing loose fitting clothing is a great way to shield your skin from direct sun, and keep you cool in the heat.
Wearing a cap or wide-brimmed hat also helps to shield your face from the sun to reduce the risk of sun burn. Sunglasses are also perfect for protecting your eyes from the sun – just make sure they have full UV protection.
Shade
Whilst you may want to occasionally sit in the sun and get a tan, you should also try to sit in shaded areas, especially between 10am and 4pm (peak sun time). Chilling in your garden? Don’t have any shaded areas? Gazebos and parasols are perfect way to create a sheltered area in your garden whilst also being able to enjoy the warm weather.
With help of sun cream, loose clothing, and shaded areas, you will be able to enjoy your sunny summer sun burn and sun stroke free.
