Touring vs Static Caravans

With caravanning growing in popularity, more people are investing in caravans of all shapes and sizes to enjoy a break away from their normal day-to-day. But should you invest in a static or a touring caravan?

A static caravan is a caravan that stays in one place, usually a holiday park, and can be lived in permanently or used as a holiday home. Compared to a tourer, static caravans tend to be equipped with everything you might have in your home. They are also more spacious and offer 2-4 bedrooms, perfect for a family holiday. It also the more secure option as they tend to be on holiday park sites that are secure. You can also rent out your static holiday home whenever you aren’t using it - a great way to start making your money back!

However, once you put it on a site, you cannot hitch it up and move it to another whenever you want. Some holiday parks are also closed during colder months, so you may not get a full 12 month’s use out of it.

Touring caravans are the opposite of static homes. They are easy to hitch up at the blink of an eye and take across the country to a different destination each week (if you feel like it). There are also lots of holiday parks across the UK for you to visit, perfect for those who like exploring different places.

One thing to look out for is the vehicle you will be using to tow. You need to make sure it is powerful enough to tow the weight of the caravan. There is nothing worse than investing in a nice caravan to only realize you need to invest in a more powerful car as well!

So, if you don’t mind visiting the same place every holiday, a static is perfect for you. If you are a road trip fan, a tourer is the ideal choice.
