One of the most common queries with the range of Towsure detachable towbars is that sometimes the neck appears as if it will no longer fit to the car - if this happens don't panic, it's not a faulty towbar! All this means, is that the locking mechanism wasn't fully released the last time it was removed and has sprung back to the "locked" position preventing it from being inserted into the tow bar.
The good news is that it's really straightforward to reset your detachable towball locking system; and we've put together a quick instruction video showing you how to do it.
The example used in our video is the Total Eclipse system - which is not showing when you're not towing. The procedure is the same for the standard Eclipse detachable tow ball too.
In its normal position, the small pin can be seen clearly exposed facing towards the towing ball in the case of the Total Eclipse, or vertically upwards in the case of the standard Eclipse (in both cases alongside the half-moon shaped cut out)
If this has been knocked out of its normal position during removal or storage, this will prevent the towball swan neck from being inserted into the housing. You can easily tell if the pin is incorrectly set if it is more or less flush with the body of the towball, the larger pin is protruding (towards the end that inserts into the towbar receiver) and a red band is visible through the "window" of the detachable towball handle.
If this is the case, then all you need to do is to push in the blue twist handle and rotate it fully until the large pin retracts and the small pin pops out and into place. The removable neck of the towbar can now be inserted as normal and locked into place ready to tow.
